Standard 8: Instructional Strategies
NJPTS Addressed:
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
Rationale:
In my lessons, I explained the directions in different ways for those students that are ESL learners. This gives the students a broader understand of what is being taught. The use of technology gives students technology awareness and makes the lesson interactive while the teacher is teaching. Each student learns differently and the teacher will have to differentiate the lesson. It is important for teachers to use a wide range of instructional strategies for extra support in the lesson. I was able to observe how each student reached their new goal by working with different strategies. The different types of learner are kinesthetic, auditory and visual. Centers, word board, smart board, workbook, centers were all part of involving different learners. Lessons that involved all types of learners proved to be the most effective because it used a variety of teaching strategies that fit each learning style present in my classroom. The students may personal connections to the content which helped with what they were learning.
